A MESSAGE FROM OUR 2020 JDRF PROMISE BALL REIMAGINED: THE POWER OF US EVENT CHAIRS:
Over the past few months, our lives have changed dramatically. The emergence of COVID-19 has brought an increased sense of fear to the type 1 community. Headlines that lead with the dangers of underlying conditions, concern for the immunocompromised, and an increased risk for those with diabetes underscores the very real impact that the crisis is having on our community.
There is no doubt that this is an unprecedented time, one that threatens both our economies and the health and safety of ourselves and our loved ones. As leadership for this year’s gala, we have committed ourselves to doing everything we can with what we have. We seek to fight fear with hope and continue to progress towards a cure. Because it is only through JDRF-funded advancements that we can ensure that the type 1 community, which includes our own children, are healthier and safer, both in good and in challenging times.
This year’s theme, “Then and Now,” honors the 20th anniversary of our gala and people like you, who have selflessly come together to fight for a cure. While this year we will no doubt be contending with the impact the pandemic has had on each of us individually, we see this moment in history as yet another reason why we must turn type 1 into type none.
